Christopher Scott Kono
June 27th, 1966 - September 18th, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Christopher Scott Kono, who left us peacefully on September 18, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 59 years old.
Chris was diagnosed with stage 4 HER2+ non-small cell lung cancer in October 2024, and in the months that followed, he showed the same strength, grace, and quiet determination that defined his life. True to his nature, he fought hard — stubborn to the end — but never lost his warmth, his humor, or his deep love for his family.
Born June 27, 1966, to Maxine Olney and Ramon Kono at Camp Pendleton, CA, Chris was a cherished brother of Patrick Mayo, Merry Kohn, and Tracy Bell, who resides in Washington state, and a treasured uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Chris was a devoted husband to Kirstyn Kono, a loving father to his children: Ashley Yatsuk, Venessa Hatfield, Samantha Hatfield, and Erikka Kono, and a smiling figure for his grandchildren Kenzee, Kaelynn, Kayden, and Nora. His family was the center of his world, and his greatest joy came from the simple moments, cooking weekend dinners, adventuring on vacations, and spending time with those he loved most. His family asks that you send photos of Chris to [email protected].
He was known for his kindness, his steady presence, and his ability to make everyone feel at ease. Whether offering a helping hand, listening with empathy, or sharing a quiet laugh, Chris touched countless lives with his warmth and generosity. Chris was known for being stubborn, not just in argument, but in principle. He stood firm for the people and things he believed in. That same stubborn streak was matched only by his generosity. He gave freely of his time, his energy, and his heart. If you needed help, Chris showed up. No questions asked.
Chris will be remembered not only for the life he lived, but for the love he gave. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, integrity, and devotion that will live on through his family and all who knew him. He will be remembered with deep affection by all.
A celebration of Chris’s life will be held on October 18, 2025, at his home in Orting, WA. Please email [email protected] for the address. This celebration of life will be a Potluck style, as this was Chris’s favorite family gathering. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in his memory to his GoFundMe to support Kirstyn’s financial recovery.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
