Carmella “Millie” Papp
1935 - 2025
Carmella “Millie” (Delle Fontane) Papp of Springfield passed away on October 2, 2025, with loving family at her side, from advanced dementia at the age of 90.
Millie was born in Hoboken, New Jersey, to Mario and Anna (Salzano) Delle Fontane. She and her younger sister Rae (Tabano) were raised in a first-generation Italian family with lots of close-knit cousins.
Millie married Thomas Papp in 1956 and celebrated 60 beloved years of marriage. Together they raised three children: Thomas (Maureen) Papp, Michael Papp, and Debra (Richard) Rollin. Millie’s beautiful family includes grandchildren Angelica, Carmella, Danah (Matthew), Taylor, McKenzie, Gianna (Dominic), Tyler, and two great-grandchildren, Adelyn and Ayden.
In 1972, Tom and Millie, together with her parents, moved to South Florida where Rae and her family were living. Millie worked retail in the beauty industry and always looked elegant – a classy lady for sure – both in looks and deeds.
Millie loved to cook, bake and try new recipes. She and Tom hosted many holidays together; guests were filled with scrumptious Italian food and love. Millie was a “gusher” (especially over her grandkids!) and was frequently heard singing or humming; she had a beautiful voice.
In 1995, Tom and Millie moved to Oregon where they spent the rest of their days together, before he passed away in 2017. Millie encountered serious medical setbacks later in life and faced each with grace and strength. She was resilient, never complained and was always devoted to the Blessed Mother. Even when dementia robbed Millie of her thoughts and abilities, she remained ever so sweet and loving.
Heartfelt thanks to Yesenia and the wonderful caregivers at the Rawlin, and to Kym and her amazing hospice team. Millie was loved and will be missed by many.
