Barbara "Hanya" Ann Yaworski Kavey
November 22nd, 1930 - October 3rd, 2025
Barbara Ann Yaworski Kavey “Hanya”, 94, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and sister, passed away peacefully at her daughters’ home in Colorado on Friday, October 3rd.
She was born on November 22nd, 1930 in Faust NY to Michelina (Turzanski) & Mikhail Yaworski of Turka, Ukraine and Belarus, respectively.
Barbara was sweet, kind, had a great sense of humor and was incredibly intelligent. She skipped two grades, graduating Tupper Lake High School in 1948. She was happy and content in her home and would often hum and sing in her garden and while cooking and baking. She loved her large extended family, loved reading, gardening, feeding everyone her delicious food, crossword puzzles and her beloved Tupper Lake and Adirondack Mountains.
Barbara started working at an early age at JJ Newberry, then at the Tupper Lake National Bank where she was a trainer. After being overlooked for promotion twice, she left the bank for Sunmount Veterans Administration Hospital as bookkeeper. She loved the VA and all her wonderful coworkers and friends. She was married to Martin Joseph Kavey on June 13, 1964 at Holy Name Church. She is survived by her daughters Alicia (James) Oro of Columbia, MD and Marcia Kavey of Fort Collins, CO, and her grandson Ethan Oro of Steamboat Springs, CO, along with her many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Martin “Matt” Kavey, her beloved siblings Peter (Gladys) Kucipeck, Olga Kucipak, Nicholas Kucipak, Mary Kucipak, Andrew (Lorraine) Kucipak, Harry (Teresa) Kucipak, John (Theresa) Yaworski and Phyllis Yaworski, and her niece Andrea Kucipak Burrell.

There will be a memorial service on CSU campus Sunday October 12th, followed by a reception on Barbuda Dr. There will be a memorial burial beside her husband, mother and siblings at the Holy Name Cemetery in Tupper Lake, NY at a later date.
