Ray Manning
April 16th, 1932 - October 7th, 2025
IN LOVING MEMORY
Ray Manning, aged 93, of Columbia, South Carolina, peacefully departed this life on October 7, 2025, at his residence. Born on April 16, 1932, in La Grange, North Carolina, Ray was the beloved son of John and Laura (Ham) Manning.
Ray is lovingly reunited in heaven with his cherished parents, siblings, his loving wife of 34 years, Carol Ann Manning and his devoted wife of 30 years Lucille Manning. He leaves behind a legacy through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Ray fostered a lifelong passion for fishing and the great outdoors. He enjoyed sports his entire life. He was an All American Athlete, and he would note that his knuckle ball struck out hitters all over the world. A proud Vietnam Era Veteran, he served his country with honor and distinction, retiring as a First Sergeant after 22 years in the US Army. His service earned him several decorations, reflecting his unwavering commitment to his country.
Following his military career, Ray spent over 40 years as a dedicated truck driver. Though he seldom discussed politics or religion, he was a fervent defender of democracy and always shed tears during family prayers.
Raised working in tobacco fields, Ray embodied the values of hard work and perseverance throughout his life. His journey serves as an enduring testament to his dedication, strength, and love for his family and country. Ray (Skeeter) Manning will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
