Betty Ortega, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was 92 years old.
Born on December 27, 1932, in Rawlins, Wyoming, Betty spent most of her life in Albuquerque, where she raised her family and created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love.
She was the proud mother of six sons. She is preceded in death by three of them: Felix, Robert, and Michael Madrid. She is survived by her sons Andrew, Gilbert, and David Madrid, who continue to honor her legacy. Betty was also blessed with 16 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Betty found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved the mountains and treasured family picnics surrounded by nature. She had a fun-loving spirit and enjoyed teaching her grandchildren how to play poker — a skill she delighted in sharing — and rarely missed a chance to play a good game of bingo.
Though she carried her Christian faith quietly, it was reflected in the way she lived: with kindness, patience, and deep love for her family.
