Dessie Delaine Reiter
December 28th, 1964 - October 10th, 2025
Celebrating the Life of
Dessie Delaine Reiter, 60, of Kernersville, North Carolina, went to be with our Lord and Savior on October 10, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.
Born on December 28, 1964, in Martinsville, Virginia, Dessie was the daughter of the late Ruby Mae Light and Nathaniel Sammy Duncan.
Dessie was a devoted wife to her husband, John, of 29 years; a phenomenal mother to her children; and a remarkable grandmother, sister, and friend. She made sure that no matter where her family was, they always felt at home. Dessie never met a stranger, her joy was contagious, and her laughter could fill any room.
She lived life to the fullest, whether she was relaxing on the beach, cheering at a NASCAR race, singing along at a concert, or off on a new adventure. Though many things brought her happiness, nothing compared to the light that shone from her when she spoke of her family. She loved her husband beyond measure, adored and supported her children, and cherished every precious moments with her grandchildren. Though her time on earth was too short, the impact she left will live on for generations.
A graduate of Oxnard College in 1985 with a degree in Business, Dessie went on to build a successful career in business management.
She is survived by her loving husband, John; their six children, Bobby (Vennesa), Camren, Cassy (Heath), Ryan (Margaret), Jordan (Kylie), and Adam (Sarah); and thirteen grandchildren—Sterling, Bella, Kyla, Victoria, Spring, Devin, Tanner, Nathan, Enzo, Zain, Delilah, Annabel, and Lily. She is also survived by her brother, Eddie Walker (Missy); nieces, Sherry, April, and Britney; great-niece, Ashley; great-nephew, Jeremiah; and her best friend, Melanie Campbell.
Dessie was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby Mae Light and Nathaniel S. Duncan; foster parents, John and Polly Hall of Martinsville, Virginia; brothers, Ricky Walker, Nathaniel (Nathan) Sammy Duncan Jr., and Samuel Eugene Duncan; and niece, Jessie Cannoy.
The Family is planning a Celebration of Life and will reach out with details soon.
