Magalia, CA resident Patricia J. Sangl passed away September 20, 2025 in Chico, CA after a courageous struggle with numerous health issues. It was the 21st anniversary of her husband Donald’s death. She had her “Hallmark” exit, at peace and surrounded by family, who held her hands as she passed. Pat was born on January 12, 1938 to John and Eleanor Nilles on a farm near LeMars, IA, moving with family to a farm near Ashton, IA when she was 10. She graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Ashton. In September of 1958 she married Donald Sangl. They moved to New York in 1960, where Don worked in the aerospace industry. They raised 4 children on Long Island. When Don had a heart attack and nearly died, Pat decided to go back to school, to better provide, if needed. She earned an associates degree from Suffolk County Community College and worked for the county government afterwards until they retired and moved to Magalia, CA in 1991. Don passed away in 2004.
She was always a mom who was there for the kids: from class mom, to den mother in Boy Scouts, to teaching them all about anything they might be interested in. She supported music lessons and tirelessly lent a hand. After retirement, she volunteered at the Feather River Hospital, and was a member of Elks Wives, Fraternal Order of Eagles and others.
She always enjoyed travel, but after Don passed, she embraced travel abroad too: visiting Ireland, travel on the Rhine River, and even taking a cruise through the Panama Canal. She also enjoyed live music, shows, and going to the casino with friends. She was tireless and tenacious and always full of love, she’ll be sorely missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, her brother Rob of Hamilton, MT and her sister Barbara of Sacramento, CA. She is survived by her daughter Jean and her husband Allen of Culver City, CA, Her son Gregory and his wife Maureen of Williamsport, PA, Her son Paul and his wife Vernell of Eagle River, AK and her son Thomas and his wife Laura of Parker, CO. She is also survived by her siblings Tom, Rose, Bill, Jerry and Lee. There are also 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A funeral service is tentatively scheduled for the first week of August in Ashton at St. Mary’s Church.
