Virginia Anne Kenny

Virginia Anne (Schwering) Kenny, 84, of Charlotte, North Carolina, died on October 12, 2025. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on March 31, 1941.

A selfless mother and devoted Nana, Virginia found her greatest joy in her children and grandchildren. She was an important part of her grandchildren’s lives and was a fixture at their athletic events and school activities.

She had a long and successful career in banking before retiring from BB&T.

Virginia enjoyed playing bridge monthly with women from Larkspur Lane in Charlotte, and the group continued their games for nearly 50 years, long after moving away from the neighborhood. Starting in 1973, Virginia and her family spent a treasured week each summer at Ocean Isle Beach with a close-knit group of FBI families, a tradition that continues to this day. After retiring, she reconnected with her high school friends from Ancillae-Assumpta Academy in Philadelphia, traveling in the summers to New Hampshire and each fall to New York City, where they enjoyed great meals and Broadway shows together.

She is survived by her children Joe Kenny (Elizabeth Stinson), Maria Kenny, and Veronica Kenny-Macpherson (Bob Macpherson); her grandchildren Frank, Mary Louise, and Boyd; and her brothers John and Jim Schwering. She was predeceased by her brothers Walter and Dick Schwering.

A memorial service will be held on October 25, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Church Charlotte, 1412 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC.
