Doug Green, 86, of Belleview, passed away on October 13 in Belleview.
Doug was born John Douglas Green, Jr. in Whistler, AL to John D and Lena Mae Green on November 17, 1938. He went to school in Mobile, AL. He graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He married the love of his life Maudie on April 3, 1959, in Mobile. His early career was in barbering, later called to the ministry as Minister of Education for Baptist churches in Mobile, Selma, AL and First Baptist Church of Belleview for 18 years. After retiring from the church, he worked for Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services for 26 years. Doug was a veteran of the US Army Reserve, rising to the rank of Sergeant. He was an active volunteer police chaplain with the Selma (AL) Police Dept for 6 years, the Ocala Police Dept for 26 years and the Belleview Police Dept for 44 years. Most recently, he was selected to serve as the Grand Marshall for the 2025 Belleview Christmas Parade. He enjoyed his horse as a teenager, and later, kit-bashing model automobiles, combing parts from several model kits to come up with custom-designed emergency vehicles.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jimmy.
Doug is survived by Maudie, his wife of 66 years; his three children: Becky (David) Reaves of McAlpin, FL, Debbie of Belleview, and Bob (Kim) of Poughkeepsie, NY; his sister: Barbara (Tom) Cochran of Cropwell, AL; and one granddaughter: Maggie Reaves of Palm Coast, FL.
There will be a time of gathering at 2:00 pm October 26, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Belleview, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 pm at the church, Pastor Ben Reams officiating.
Arrangements are by Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, Belleview
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the BOLDER VISION (Building Campaign) fund of First Baptist Church, Belleview, or the Police Benevolence Funds of the Ocala or Belleview Police Departments.
