Janet Thoma passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025 at her home in Parker, surrounded by family. Janet was born on Valentine’s Day 1936 in Pueblo, Colorado to Elmer and Fay Carlson. She was an excellent student who also had an affinity for music, learning to play both violin and piano. After high school, Janet worked for the New York Life Insurance Company as a secretary, putting her typing and shorthand skills to good use. In 1955, she began a correspondence with an Air Force serviceman stationed in Texas. These letters eventually led to visits and a proposal- Janet and Charlie were married in March 1957. After spending their early married years in Pennsylvania and California, they returned to Littleton, Colorado in 1961 where they raised Nancy and Dean in their home of 37 years.

Janet was a quintessential homemaker! She enjoyed and excelled at home decorating, cooking and baking, sewing and crafting. She loved views of the Rocky Mountains and looking at colorful autumn leaves. Janet gave generously of her time and talents through extensive volunteering over the years:  at three hospitals, as organist at five churches, and for 13 years at the Bonfils Blood Center where she and Charlie were named volunteers of the year. She also delivered books to shut-ins with Library Without Walls, answered phones for PFLAG and sewed doll clothes for the Santa Claus shop. In 1999, Charlie and Janet started a new chapter by moving to Parker where they have lived for the past 26 years.

Janet is survived by Charlie, her devoted husband of 68 years; daughter Nancy (Tilly); son Dean (Dean); grandsons Austin, Clay and Cole (Casey); and great-grandchildren Dominic and Josephine. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, cousins and numerous friends. She was pre-deceased by her parents and beloved older sister, Caryl Ruth.

The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice and Right At Home for providing care and comfort for Janet.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 18, 2025 at 2pm at UCC Parker Hilltop, 10926 E. Democrat Rd. in Parker. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to UCC Parker Hilltop or a charity of choice.
