Michael B. McLoughlin
March 6th, 1948 - October 10th, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Michael B. McLoughlin, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, veteran, and police officer. Mike passed away on October 10, 2025, leaving behind a loving family, countless friends, and a legacy of virtuous service.
Mike was born the youngest of three children to Robert and Elizabeth McLoughlin on March 6, 1948, in Kansas City, MO, and was baptized at Annunciation Church in Kansas City. He was a cherished son and a devoted brother to Robert (wife Katie) and the late Mary (“Candy”, husband Robert).
Mike answered the call to serve his country in Vietnam, where he served with honor and courage. His commitment to protecting others continued in his 31 years with the Westminster Police Department, rising to Lieutenant. He was a true leader who commanded the department’s SWAT team, initiated its Officer Survival Training, and left behind a legacy of integrity and bravery that will be remembered by all who worked with him. Even towards the end of his career, he cared for and felt closest to the men on the streets and was described as a true “Cop’s cop”.
Mike married Michele in 1984 and was a devoted husband for over 40 years. Their enduring love created a strong and supportive home for their three children: Heather, Meredith, and Torrey. Mike took great joy in welcoming Natalie, Torrey’s wife, into the family. In recent years, his greatest happiness came from his role as a loving grandfather to Gianni, Sofia, and Brigid. He was also a beloved uncle to many.
Mike’s friends and family were blessed by his personal loyalty and how he helped without hesitation whenever called on. He was a talented woodworker who gifted his creations to many; a competent outdoorsman who enjoyed summer camping trips with his family and hunting trips with his friends; an avid reader of American war history; a proud Irish American; and an adventurous cook willing to try new dishes and who cherished honest feedback. His love of music flourished in his later years, and though his voice sometimes wandered, his joy in it only grew. Mike treasured the many trips he shared with his wife, family, and friends, and held a deep curiosity about the world. He will be most vividly remembered perhaps, for his relentless sense of humor, so often coupled to his great humility, and the countless laughs shared with all.
Mike’s final days were filled with visits from family and close friends, and he continued to make everyone laugh even as his capacity diminished. He passed peacefully in the night with his dedicated daughter Heather by his side.
A private funeral for close family will be held on November 3rd at Fort Logan National Cemetery, followed by a celebration of life open to all friends and family. Further details will be shared soon.
