Roosevelt Thompson
November 27th, 1935 - October 13th, 2025
IN LOVING MEMORY
Retired Sgt. First Class Roosevelt Thompson, son of the late June and Nellie Thompson, was born on November 27, 1935, in Gaffney, South Carolina, and passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025.
After 21 years of dedicated service in the United States Army, Roosevelt Thompson went on to work as the grounds supervisor for Richland County School District #1, where his hard work and care left a lasting mark. In retirement, he nurtured his love for gardening, finding joy in sharing the fruits of his labor with friends, neighbors, and his community. Roosevelt was also an avid fisherman and a devoted deacon at Sweet Home Baptist Church, roles that reflected both his passions and his commitment to others.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Pearlie Mae (Adams) Thompson; three sisters, Mae Eula Norris, Mae Francis Millard, and Nellie Mae Shears; and five brothers, Howard Thompson, CW Thompson, Joe Lewis Thompson, Herbert Thompson, and Vernon Thompson.
Roosevelt leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 27 years, Vernette Thompson; his brother, Eugene (Sarah); his sisters in law, Rose Kroger, Betty (Kenny) Blakeny, Mary Bradham; brother in law, Levern (Thelma) Coe; his children, Linda, Irvin, Helen (Ronnie), Felicia (Seleena), and Dwain (Lauryn); seven grandchildren, Thomas Gerald, Latisha Gewans, Taylor Holloway, Aizha Thompson, Kemoni Thompson, Ryan Tilmore, and Rhyan Thompson; one great-grandson, Hendrixx Thompson; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. His kindness, faith, and generosity of spirit touched all who knew him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and community.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 1:00PM with the Reverend Joseph Wilson officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209, following the chapel service.
