Janice C Nyland
November 16th, 1945 - October 10th, 2025
Janice C. Nyland passed away peacefully on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the age of 79. She was born on November 16, 1945, in Milwaukee, WI, to parents Joseph and Helen Rehbein (née Turan).
Janice attended Alverno College and later Milwaukee Area Technical College, where she earned her engineering degree with honors. She had a deep love for literature and a lifelong curiosity for learning. Janice studied art and literature at Alverno College and even had a short story published in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. She was an avid swimmer until very recently and proudly held her lifeguard certification.
After working as an engineer for a short time, Janice discovered her true passion—training dogs. She turned that passion into a fulfilling career, opening her own dog training school, where she became a respected and accomplished trainer.
Janice was highly competitive in dog obedience and particularly skilled in canine freestyle and heelwork to music, achieving the highest titles in her field. Her dedication and expertise earned her numerous awards and the admiration of her peers. She was an active member of both the K-9 Dog Training Club and the Badger Golden Retriever Club.
Beyond her love of dogs, Janice was an enthusiastic reader and cherished the time she spent with her book clubs. She was a devoted member of a Milwaukee book club for many years, and after it disbanded, she started a new one in Waukesha, where she remained active and engaged up until her passing. The friendships and conversations she shared through those clubs were a great joy in her life.
Janice will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Joe; her daughter, Maggie (Mike); her beloved dog, Louie; her sister, Dorothy; and her best friend, Carol. She is further survived by her sister-in-law Andria (Jim), brother-in-law Mike (Lori), and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Randal; her parents; her brother, Harold; her sister-in-law, Kathie (the wife of her brother Harold); her brother-in-law, Jack; and her parents-in-law, Peter and Esther.
The visitation for Janice will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, from 12:00pm until the start of the service at 1:00pm at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N Moreland Blvd, Waukesha, WI 53188.
