A private memorial service will be held at Wilhelm's Portland Memorial on the date of Oct. 28, 2025 for Richard Alan Howell who died at the age of 98 on Oct. 8, 2025.
Mr. Howell was born on August 6, 1927 in Portland, Oregon. He was raised on a farm in the Sherwood area and graduated from Sherwood High School. He served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Garfield Thomas DE 193.
After the naval service he graduated from Oregon State University at Corvallis, Oregon. He was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity at OSU. After graduation he went to work for John Deere at the Portland Branch. During his 32 years of employment at John Deere he was in Sales, Credit and was Personnel Manager his last 15 years before retirement.
In 1960 he married Marcella (Marcy) Wies and enjoyed 64 years of their marriage before she passed away on May 30, 2024.
After his retirement he and his wife enjoyed many years of traveling and cruising to many places in the U.S. and throughout the world. He will be greatly missed by many friends who had the privilege of sharing his life.
Private Interment will be at Wilhelm's Portland Memorial. Remembrances in lieu of flowers are suggested at his request to be made to the Bonnie Hayes Small Animal Shelter in Hillsboro, Oregon.
Arrangements are to be handled by Wilhelm's Portland Memorial.

At Wilhelm's Portland Memorial, we have a rich history dating back to 1901 when we became the first crematory west of the Mississippi River, known then as The Portland Cremation Association. Our historic chapel, marked by its cornerstone placed on February 5th, 1901, has stood the test of time. Today, our memorial site spans 8 stories, approximately 7 miles of corridors of beautifully preserved architecture, and the largest mausoleum on the west coast, spanning 2.5 city blocks....
