In Loving Memory
Vera Elizabeth Allen Spires, 80, passed away on October 24, 2025. She was born on February 12, 1945, in Bamberg, South Carolina, to the late Foster Allen and Ruth Riley Jones Allen. She was the fifth of six children.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, James Allen and John Allen; three sisters, Carrie Mel, Virginia Mills, and Annie May Pennington; her grandparents, Carrie Lyons Jones and George Jones; and her great-grandchild, Baby Moore (2021).
She is survived by her children, Beverly Mose, Theresa Turner (Carl), and James “Les” Spires; her grandchildren, Kristen (Kyle), Heather (Jason), Madison, Preston, Jackson, and Mo (Rose); her great-grandchildren, James (Bree), K.J., and Mason; and her dog, Rose.
Vera was a proud woman and a loving mother. She spent most of her life as a full-time caregiver to others, a role that reflected her generous heart and her deep love of people. She was happiest socializing and spending time with her family and friends. Her daily interactions at the Active Day Center, where she attended faithfully until she no longer could, brought her great joy.
She was a long-standing member of Willow Ridge Church. She was an avid Gamecock, Clemson, and Georgia fan, depending on who she was sitting with that day. Vera never missed an opportunity to come together for a football game, a birthday celebration, or any moment that brought laughter and loved ones under one roof.
A visitation will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Willow Ridge Church, 104 Sycamore Tree Road, Lexington, SC 29073, followed by a memorial service beginning at 11:30 AM. Live streaming will be available for those unable to attend. Family and friends are invited to gather afterward at Theresa’s home, 209 Summer Walk Court, West Columbia, SC 29170, to continue sharing memories and fellowship. Vera believed in living simply and never making a fuss. In her honor, please feel free to come as you are and wear whatever you are comfortable in.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Willow Ridge Baptist Church. or to MSA Hospice.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to her longtime caregiver, Gwen, and the extended care team at MSA Hospice for their compassion, as well as appreciation and love for our neighbors Larry and Sheila, Crystal, Cheryl and Davis, and Melissa for their kindness and support.
Vera’s loving presence will be forever missed, and the honesty, simplicity, and warmth she lived by will remain her legacy.
