Robert William “Bob” Woolfolk, 88, of Washington, D.C., passed away peacefully on October14th 2025.
Born in February 1937 in California, Bob earned his undergraduate degree from the Universityof California, Riverside, and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley.He dedicated his career to SRI International and then South West Research Institute, where hisintellect, curiosity, and commitment to discovery made a lasting impact on colleagues and thefield of scientific research.
Bob’s many passions reflected his zest for life. He enjoyed golf, baking, theater, gardening, andhis faith. He was a docent at the National Cathedral and joyful cashier who greeted allcustomers at the Op Shop. Bob was happiest surrounded by good conversation, a fine cigar,and a perfectly mixed martini. Known for his inquisitive mind, humor, and love of bringing peopletogether, Bob inspired those around him to live fully and learn continuously.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane Schubert; his children Helene (Rick) Neidig , Paula(Josh) Woolfolk-Cohen, and Andrew Woolfolk; his cherished grandchildren Spenser and LoganNeidig; his brother Mark Woolfolk; his sister Paula Biagi and his sister-in-law Joan Gary. He waspreceded in death by his wife, Suellen Whitehead Woolfolk, and by his daughter Nancy (Cary)Jellison .
A funeral service will be held at St. Albans Episcopal Church 3001 Wisconsin Ave NW,Washington DC. on October 31, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., with a reception to follow at the church.
