Peggy Shay, 102, passed away on September 28th, 2025 at Cerenity-Marian Senior Care in St. Paul, MN. She was born on September 5th, 1923 in St. Paul. She and her younger sister Patty had a close relationship throughout their lives. Growing up, Peggy and Patty spent time with relatives in Wisconsin and Indiana when they weren’t in St. Paul. At a young age, Peggy developed a love of theater and film and aspired to be an actress. She graduated from St. Catherine’s University and spent her career teaching high school English, speech, and theater classes. She and Patty lived a wonderful life together, sharing two chihuahuas and traveling to many places in the United States and abroad, as they both enjoyed adventures.

Peggy was witty, kind, and incredibly strong. She always made time for family, whether it was for an in-person visit or a long phone call. She loved her faith. As she often said, “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad.”

Peggy was preceded in death by her mother, Marguerite, her sister, and her special cousin Ruth. She is survived by close relatives from Ruth’s family: Susie Schumacher (Tab Baumgartner), Dan Baumgartner, Matt (Amanda) Baumgartner, Liz Baumgartner, Joe Baumgartner, Mary Baumgartner, Ruby Baumgartner, and Benny Baumgartner.

There will be a Funeral Mass for Peggy on Wednesday, October 29th, 2025 at 10am at St. Louis, King of France, the Little French Church, where she was a long-time parishioner.

Spielman Mortuary

Spielman Mortuary

Spielman Mortuary has been helping Saint Paul families since 1950 when Kenneth and Helen Spielman purchased the National Funeral Home. For over 30 years, the couple lived above the funeral home and took just one vacation. They sold the home in 1984 to the Willwerscheid family. We still operate Spielman Mortuary with the same traditions of pride, sensitivity, value, and attention to detail that the Spielmans followed for over three decades....
