Lynda Ruth Ekman-Fischer passed away unexpectedly at her home in Warner Robins, Georgia, in October 2025.

Lynda "Lynnie" to many of her close family and friends), the second of two children, was born on September 20, 1945, in Macon, Georgia. Her parents had relocated to Georgia, her mother’s home state, from Florida during World War II when her father, Elmer, was called into supporting war materiel production at Wellston Air Depot at Robins Field (now Robins Air Force Base). Several months after her birth, with the end of the war, the family moved back to their home in Ft. Lauderdale.

Lynda spent her childhood in Ft. Lauderdale and her teenage and young adult years in West Palm Beach, Florida. Later, for a period of time, she lived and worked in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, ultimately moving back to the Macon area in 1979. She worked for the US Postal Service for the following twenty-four years, taking an early retirement in 2003 in order to care for her mother, Ellen, who battled a terminal illness for several years.

In 1988, Lynda had married the love of her life, John Fischer, and moved to Warner Robins, into what would be her home for the next thirty-six years. John passed away in 1999, but Lynda continued to honor his memory with deep affection for the rest of her life.

Lynda was loving, sensitive, generous, and kind, a very special person who took pleasure from, as she called it, "sprinkling happiness" to everyone she met, friends and strangers alike. She enjoyed sharing her joyful recognition of their importance and giving them something to smile about, even in the most casual encounter. Any physical pain or personal sorrow Lynnie herself may have been feeling never dimmed her brightness of spirit. She probably had no idea how many lives she touched in her sincere and beautiful way. 

Lynnie will be sorely mourned by those who knew and loved her. Those wonderful "sprinkles of happiness" will be missed far beyond measure.

Lynda is survived by her sister, Karen Ekman-Baur, and brother-in-law, Werner Baur, of Ehningen, Germany; a nephew, Mark Baur (Adriana Poole), and two great-nephews, Daniel and Matteo Baur of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; step-daughters, Lorri Fischer and Debbie Fischer Sautter of Macon, Georgia: a number of cousins; and her dear lifelong friends, Carol and Stan Ferraro, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Throughout her life, from earliest childhood, Lynda was a committed animal lover. In fact, she often said that she felt that her family had been "rich" when she was growing up because they always had pets. Several years ago, Lynda took the ashes of her and John's pet cats for interment at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. A donation in Lynnie's honor to that organization, would most surely have brought a smile to her face.

A Celebration of Life, with family and close friends in attendance, will be held for Lynda at a private residence on November 8
