John David Anthony
October 2nd, 1944 - October 20th, 2025
John David “David” Anthony, age 81, passed away peacefully on the morning of October 20, 2025, in Pineville, North Carolina.
David was born on October 2, 1944, in Roanoke, Virginia, the son of the late John and Ethel Plummer Anthony. After the passing of his father, David, his mother, and his sister, Suzanne, moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. David later graduated from East Mecklenburg High School.
Following high school, David served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his service, he settled in California, where he worked in the film industry, traveling across the country with Technicolor. Later, he returned to Charlotte and began a successful career in hardware and fastener sales, eventually retiring from PrimeSource Building Products.
Music was a lifelong passion for David. A talented singer and musician, he performed with several bands around the Charlotte area, including Ziggy Hurwitz’s Band and Bill Hanna’s Vintage Dance Band. His love for music and performance brought joy to countless friends and audiences over the years.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his beloved partner, Betty Sawyer.
He is lovingly remembered by his sister, Suzanne Anthony of Charlotte; close family friends Ginger Sawyer, Jennifer Sawyer-Rayos, and David Sawyer, along with their children, who affectionately knew him as “PeePop”; and by Marci Hanna and Sheila and Steve Douglas, who were like extended family.
A graveside service to celebrate David’s life will be held on Thursday, November 20, at 2:00 p.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery in Charlotte. Friends and family are welcome to attend and share in remembering David.
For those wishing to honor his memory, donations may be made to The Salvation Army, David’s charity of choice.
