Lawrence Richard Randall Bushey (“Lucky Larry”) March 18, 1931 – October 26, 2025
Lawrence Richard Randall Bushey, affectionately known as “Lucky Larry,” passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, in Venice, Florida, at the age of 94. Born on March 18, 1931, in Boston, Massachusetts, Larry lived a long, full life marked by love, loyalty, and humor.
He was the devoted husband of Elaine M. Bushey (Conrad). Together they built a beautiful life, celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary this past September surrounded by family and friends. Larry was a proud father to six children: Richard Bushey (wife Cheryl, predeceased) of Weymouth, MA; Deborah Bushey and wife Lisa Julian of Weymouth, MA; Donna Connolly and husband John Connolly of Quincy, MA; Michael Bushey and wife Stacy Bushey of Milford, MA; Pamela Burke and husband Michael Burke of Nokomis, FL; and Susan Chaisson and husband Brian Chaisson of Scituate, MA.
He was a loving grandfather to Erin Connolly, Mathew Bushey, Audrey Bushey, McKenzie MacDougall, Brian Burke, Carlie Berger, Collin Chaisson, Alex Chaisson, and Vince Chaisson, and a proud great-grandfather to Cameron Stroop, Madelyn MacDougall, and Maizie Sue Berger. Larry is also survived by his brother, Charles Merritt, and was predeceased by his brothers John Brennan and Robert Brennan.
A graduate of Dorchester High School for Boys, Larry was an athlete throughout his youth, playing both football and basketball. After high school, he served as an Ensign in the United States Naval Reserve from 1950 to 1954, stationed aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard (CV-31). Following his service, he began a long and respected career with New England Telephone and Telegraph Company, where he worked for more than 30 years. After retirement, he became a licensed real estate agent, assisting his daughter Pamela with her business.
Above all, Larry was a loving husband and father whose steady presence anchored his family. An athlete at heart, he kept his competitive streak alive through golf, shuffleboard, bingo, and his favorite pastime—gambling. His knack for winning earned him the nickname “Lucky Larry,” a title that perfectly reflected both his charm and his good humor.
In accordance with his wishes, Larry will be cremated, and the family will take time privately to honor his life and memory. A private burial will take place at Sarasota National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause close to their hearts at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or online at www.stjude.org.
