Matthew Scott Marlor
May 8th, 1996 - October 17th, 2025
We are here with heavy and grateful hearts, to commemorate the life of Matthew Scott Marlor. Today we all feel the void of where the infectious laughter and brilliant smile of Matt should be.
Matthew means " Gift from God" and he was truly that. Before his birth Sheryl desperately wanted a baby girl. While feeling sad one day about being pregnant again with another baby boy, little baby Matthews face appeared to Sheryl, brought peace to her soul and told her "its going to be okay" . He was right it was okay, in fact, on May 8th 1996 , Matt was born and better than okay. He was the easiest, quietest baby in the Marlor family.
Matt was the spirited third of four sons that filled the Marlor home with noise , energy and unbreakable bonds. His unique blend of strength, compassion , kindness and wit made him an essential part of the crew. As a toddler Matt spent many days in the car running errands with his mother. He was her " Happy Meal" kid because he always loved and still loves a fast food meals. Not long after this phase, Matt's first mortal enemy, eventually eternal best friend and fishing companion Justin joined the family. They were inseparable for the last decade since their dad passed.
Many Marlor vacations and holidays growing up were spent driving to Utah or Nebraska. During long car rides, the boys fight, punch and kick. These fights often ended with bloody noses. The punishment was a long embrace on the side of the road with the brother. What we would give for just one more hug. Matthew, you left us too soon.
Matt's life was full of love, but his journey also knew trials and grief. We know now he is reunited with his beloved father and forever fishing and hunting buddy Dave. While our sorrow is difficult today, we find comfort in God's plan in knowing that they are together, watching over us from heaven.
Matt achieved so much in his short 29 years. He graduated from Coronado high school in 2014 and received his Bachelors of science degree in nursing from the University of Colorado , Colorado Springs in 2021. The perfect fit for Matt's compassion and intelligence was the demanding field of Pediatric Care, where he served as a Medical Surgical Nurse and case manager. For Matt, his career was not just a job, it was a reflection of who he truly was: kindhearted, patient and deeply caring. He loved kids, and that loved shined brightly when he was tending to his patients or, even more when he was simply being " Uncle Matt" to his nieces and nephews, who he lovingly called his " Little Turds".
It was his father who first taught him to hunt and fish, and who instilled a life long passion for being in nature. From the time he shot his first Pheasant or caught his first fish, Matt could almost always be found in the mountains or near a stream. The great outdoors was Matts refuge, and his heart had a special desire for the cold, clear water of streams and lakes, and the crisp air of fall morning while bird hunting. You always could see Matt with a big smile on his face while holding the monster fish he always seemed to catch. This deep appreciation for natures solitude and the disciple in requires were perfectly reflected in his outstanding achievement as an eagle scout. You will always be able to find Matt's soul where the trail ends and the real world begins.
Soccer was another source of immense joy, where his competitive spirit and abundant energy could shine through as a teammate. Matt also loved to play video games with close friends. Matt could also be found playing frisbee golf with his friends, riding a bicycle or motorcycle in the mountains and skiing the runs of Colorado's slopes.
Matt had a tender side for animals , especially his cat's which he rescued on the side of the road and from the pound. Nitro and Nala could be found sleeping on his bed, sitting in his lap or by his side constantly. Matt loved all his friends and brother's dogs and cats. He had such a gentle loving spirit.
Matthew's tenderness and loving heart wasn't only shown with his pets, friends and family, but he also loved his girlfriend Vanesa. They discussed what their future would look like together, including plans to get engaged in the coming year and growing old somewhere in Mexico. Matt will be painfully missed by Vanesa until they reunite one sweet day.
To his mother, his brothers, his family and his friends: Our hearts ache with yours. Matt taught us about commitment - to a cause, to a patient , to the wilderness and to his family. Let us not remember Matt by the day he left , but by the magnificent spirit and joy he shared with us for 29 years. Let us carry forward his kindness to children, his reverence for the natural world, and his quiet humility and joy in the company of those he loved.
When you next see an eagle soar over a Colorado peak, when you hear the excited chatter of children, or when you find yourself walking a quiet mountain path- know that Matt Marlor is there, forever whole , forever at peace.
Matt was preceded in death by his father, David Marlor; his grandmother Virginia Blad; and his grandfather Eugene Marlor. He is survived by his mother, Sheryl K. Marlor; his three brothers Jeff, Derek and Justin; his sisters-in-law, Eliza and Mindy; his nieces and nephews, Teagan, Avery, Clif, Brooke, Beckett and Reed; his girlfriend Vanesa; his grandmother , Maxine Child; his grandfather , Blaine L Blad; and his two Siamese cats Nitro and Nala.
We Love You Matt and we will always remember you and look for ways to honor your life and legacy. Until we meet again.
