Shirley Faye McMaster Smoot, 92, of Lynchburg, Virginia went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James C. “JC” Smoot.

Born on August 15, 1933, in Lynchburg, Shirley was the eldest daughter of the late Elwood McMaster and Elizabeth Redmond. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Peggy M. Tinnell, and her brother-in-law, J. Rudy Austin.

Shirley was a member of Timberlake Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and spent many years serving her community in banking. She will be remembered for her warm smile, gentle spirit, and the love she poured into her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Smoot; her son, James Todd Smoot and his wife Tamara; her cherished grandchildren, Meagen Mace and her husband Dallin, and James Tyler Smoot; and her two adored great-granddaughters, Ellison and Emma James Mace.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures — word searches at the kitchen table, Bridge games with friends, and long, laughter-filled phone calls that could brighten anyone’s day. Shopping trips with her grandchildren were always a special adventure, and her deep love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was felt in everything she did. For those lucky enough to have shared her breakfast table, she was well-known for “The Best Pancakes & Toast in the World.”

She also leaves behind her sister-in-law Betty Austin, brother-in-law John “Buddy” Tinnell, Jr., along with many nieces, nephews, and dear and special friends who will miss her dearly.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Fort Hill Memorial Park, with Chaplain Mel Bautista officiating. Those wishing to share memories and condolences may do so at www.diuguidfuneralservice.com.
