In Loving Memory

Douglas (Doug) Erwin Cox, 77, of Kernersville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025.

Born on November 30, 1947, Doug was the son of the late Donald and Opal Cox. He was a 1970 graduate of Appalachian State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Doug retired from AT&T-Bell South after 20 years of dedicated service.

Doug was an active member of the Kernersville community, serving on the City’s Board of Adjustment and Parks and Recreation Board. He took great pride in contributing to the continued growth and improvement of the town he called home.

He was an avid bicyclist and enthusiastic reader who enjoyed staying active, learning new things, and embracing each day with curiosity and enthusiasm. Doug will be remembered for his kind spirit, warm sense of humor, and his genuine care for others.

Doug is survived by his loving wife, Ina Clary Cox; brother, Morris Cox and wife, Emma; stepdaughters, Sylvia (TD) Howe and Nina Yontz; grandchildren, Bryan (Kali) Pender, Jessica Pender, Kirk (Kayla) Decker, and TD Howe V; great-grandchildren, Juniper and Marty; his sister-in-law, Brenda (Bobby) Holliday; and several beloved nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amedisys Hospice, 2975 Crouse Lane, Burlington, NC 27215, or the Alzheimer’s Association.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Doug will be deeply missed by his family and friends, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
