It is with deep sorrow that the family of Ann (Spezzano) Abene announce her passing on 10/27/25.  Ann was born in Bloomfield, NJ on 2/13/31 to parents, Joseph and Marie (Infante) Spezzano.  Ann was married to her High School sweetheart, Charles F. Abene, who enlisted in the USMC at the age of 17.  After 22 yrs. of service he rose to the rank of Captain.  As the wife of a Marine, and a mother of four, Ann had a life that included multiple relocations throughout the US, before finally settling in Springfield, VA, in the Washington DC suburbs.  Ann was a devoted wife and mother and helped to build a loving family.  Unfortunately, Charles was killed in action in Vietnam on his 38th birthday.  Ann worked at Sears in nearby Alexandria for 30 yrs., and later was a cast member the Springfield Mall Disney Store.  She never remarried and raised her four children on her own.  Ironically she was married to a hero and soon became one herself.

After retirement, Ann moved to Surfside Beach, SC where she lived for 25 years.  She loved attending events at the community center, soaking up the sun at the beach, and entertaining her extended family, who would frequently come down and visit and enjoy some great Italian meals!  Ann had many friends in the neighborhood and loved to play BINGO at both the Community center and the nearby VFW.  An avid and expert baker, she was frequently called on to bake a hundred or more cupcakes when an event called for desserts!  Everyone knew Ann, and on any given day she could be seen sitting for hours on her front porch under her ever present Disney themed flag watching the children play in the pool across the street and waving to all who drove by.  She enjoyed her family, friends, and life for as long she was able.  She was a fighter to the very end.  Her Marine Corps Captain would have been very proud!

Ann is survived by her four adult children.  Linda (Bundrick) Abene of Woodbridge, VA, Karin Desloge (Denis) of Bolivia, NC,  Charlene Barnett (Richard) of Surfside Beach, SC., Charles Abene, Jr. (Rita) of Gaithersburg, MD.  She also has six grandchildren:  Joseph and Michael Bundrick; Denis and Cory Desloge; Karli Barnett; and Jessica Abene.  Ann is also remembered by her 3 great-grandchildren (J.J. and Anthony; and Skye Bundrick), her sister Carol Spezzano of Bloomfield, NJ. and sister-in-law, Debbie Spezzano, who was married to Ann's late brother, Joe Spezzano.

Ann will be laid to eternal rest and reunited with her beloved husband, Captain Charles F. Abene at Arlington National Cemetery.  Date TBD.
