Diuguid Funeral Services & Crematory - Timberlake
Russell "Garrett" Garrett McIvor
October 30th, 1969 - October 14th, 2025
After some years of coping with challenging health problems, Russell Garrett McIvor, surrounded by his family, passed away very peacefully at Lynchburg General Hospital on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025. He was sixteen days away from his fifty-sixth birthday.
Garrett is survived by his parents, Philip and Sarah McIvor; his aunt and uncle, Jack and Sandra Thompson; his cousin, Elizabeth Sweatman, her husband Jeff, and their son Silas.
From his earliest years, Garrett was a friendly, kind, people-loving person with many friends who loved him, cared for him, and helped him in any way they could. Garrett treasured them all and was forever grateful for their support.
After attending Timberlake Christian School through the tenth grade, Garrett transferred to Brookville High School and graduated from there in 1987. His college years began at what was then Lynchburg College where his love for sports was evident. He was the starting pitcher for the Lynchburg College baseball team his freshman year, and he, also, lettered in baseball that year; however, Garrett decided to transfer to the University of Alabama for his sophomore year to pursue a major in marketing. Garrett loved many sports in addition to baseball, including golf, hunting and fishing; however, football became his favorite. He faithfully watched and supported the Dallas Cowboys and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
After graduating from Alabama in 1993, Garrett returned to Lynchburg where he worked in the business world until he retired because of health issues.
Memorial contributions may be made to Forest Vol. Fire Dept, 1645 Thomas Jefferson Rd., Forest, VA 24551 or a charity of your choice.
A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced.
