Dana R. Powell, a kind and gentle man known for his big heart and wonderful sense of humor, passed away on October 23, 2025. He was born in LaPorte, Indiana, in 1944 and lived a life filled with love, laughter, and accomplishment.
Dan earned his degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University and went on to complete his Master’s in Civil Engineering at the University of Tennessee. He enjoyed a long and successful career with both Willdan and the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), where his dedication and expertise left a lasting mark on the community. After many years of service, he retired from ADOT, fondly remembered by colleagues and friends alike.
Dan is survived by his stepdaughter and son-in-law; two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; two great-grandsons; one sister and two nieces. He was a truly remarkable man, kind-hearted, gentle, and always ready with a warm smile.
He loved a good margarita, a great slice of pizza, and the joy of gathering with family and friends. Dan also had a passion for reading about old barns and covered bridges, especially those connected to his hometown of LaPorte. His famous cheese ball was a staple at every event and something everyone looked forward to each year.
Dan touched the hearts of all who knew him. His laughter, generosity, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed, but his memory will continue to bring smiles and warmth for years to come.
