James “Red” Edward KilletteJuly 2, 1942 – November 6, 2025

James “Red” Edward Killette, 83, a devoted husband, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 6, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born on July 2, 1942, in Warsaw, North Carolina, Red grew up on a tobacco farm, where he learned the value of hard work from an early age. His lifelong passion for woodworking began with his first job in a casket factory, where he discovered a gift for turning ordinary pieces of wood into extraordinary works of art. From that moment on, there was little he couldn’t make or fix with his hands.

Red later made South Carolina his home, where he built a successful career as a master plumber, a trade he practiced with dedication until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Killette, and his brothers and sisters: William Howell, Richard Howell, Charles Howell, Frank Killette, Russell Killette, Hazel Killette, Etta Killette, Dorothy Killette, Loyce Killette, Connie Killette, and Johnny Killette.

Red is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Killette; his children, James W. Killette and Cindy Killette (and their mother, Gladys Fardon), Candy Johnson (Kelly Murphy)Darrell Stephens (Julia “Becky” Stephens), and Tina Stephens; and his cherished grandchildren: Jamey Spires (Savannah Spires)Brooke KilletteMatthew Killette (Dakota Killette)Thomas BranhamJada KilletteBraxton KilletteDaniel StephensAlicia StephensMatthew StephensAshley Loman, and Sandrath Jeffcoat (Ryan Jeffcoat).

He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren: Jaylyn SpiresLandon SpiresSadie SpiresCharlotte KilletteZoey KilletteLanden BurgessBentley ShinnDylan Chavis, and Nia Sinchak; as well as his beloved sister, Patricia Mole, and many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.

Red was known and loved by all who had the pleasure of meeting him. His whimsical personality, quick wit, and playful sense of humor could light up any room. When he wasn’t in his shop, his favorite place to “piddle” and bring ideas to life, he could often be found, when still able, riding his Harley, enjoying the open road with his daughter Candy by his side. A true craftsman, Red took great pride in helping others and could always find a way to make, fix, or rig something to work, often better than before.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at New Life Baptist Church, located at 141 Mallard Rd., Summerville, SC 29483.
