Ramona L. York
September 5th, 1956 - November 8th, 2025
In Loving Memory
Ramona L York, 69, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away November 8, 2025, at Prisma Health Baptist Hospital, Columbia, South Carolina. She was born on September 5, 1956, in Okinawa Japan to the late Ernest and Shigeko (Nakayama) Leclerc. Ramona lived a life defined by strength, service, and unwavering faith.
A dedicated professional with a tireless work ethic, Ramona served as a supervisor with UPS for many years. In addition to her career in logistics, she proudly held the role of Special Deputy with the Richland County Sheriff's Department since 2011. Her commitment to public service was a reflection of her deep sense of responsibility and care for her community.
Ramona’s life was anchored by her Christian faith. Even as she faced continuous health challenges, she remained steadfast in her beliefs. Her faith gave her strength and helped her endure with grace and courage. She was the epitome of resilience—never faltering in the face of adversity.
She was a devoted mother to Dana Smith, Mariah Irby (and son-in-law Paul Irby), and Michelle Newman (and son-in-law Ryan Newman). Her love for her grandchildren—Paisley Irby, Luke Irby, and Ellie Rae Newman—was boundless. Known affectionately as “Oba,” Ramona cherished every moment spent with them. She taught them lessons that will last a lifetime and showered them with unconditional love.
Ramona also shared close bonds with her siblings: Richard Leclerc, Robert Leclerc, and Nanette Leclerc. She carried forward the memory of her parents, Ernest Leclerc and Shigeko “Bonnie” Leclerc, as well as her brother Mitchell Leclerc.
Her passions brought joy not only to herself but to those around her. She found peace tending to her plants and took pride in creating beautiful Diamond Dots art and handmade jewelry. Her home was filled with warmth—and often the playful energy of her beloved dogs and cat.
To those who knew Ramona personally—whether as a friend, sister, mother, grandmother, or colleague, she was a source of inspiration. She fought fiercely for those she loved and stood tall through every trial life presented. The world has lost an extraordinary woman whose legacy will live on through the lives she touched.
May Ramona’s memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
