Born on September 9, 1950, in Bangor, Maine, Vicki was raised inMorgantown, West Virginia, where she attended West Virginia University.Moving to Florida in 1982 (to fulfill a dream that she had in 1966 afterwatching a Gemini rocket liftoff from Cocoa Beach to one day work in thespace industry), Vicki supported the exciting transition from Apollo to SpaceShuttle and beyond. In September 2017, Vicki retired from the aerospaceindustry after 35 years with Boeing, Rockwell (where she received a SilverSnoopy Award in 1996), USA and completed her career with TheAerospace Corporation at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS).She enjoyed her family, sharing her condo river view with family andfriends, staying involved in America’s Space programs, serving her condoassociation, supporting Temple Israel, volunteering and driving thebackroads of America with Wayne looking for snow!She is survived by her husband Wayne of Cape Canaveral, her motherGerda Stokler of Cocoa Beach; her brother Howie Brodsky (Donna) ofBoise, Idaho; and her children Scott Porter (Bonnie) and Leigh Lemoine(Bubba), both of Winter Garden, FL. Mrs. Owens is pre-deceased by herfather Leonard Brodsky of Merritt Island, FL in 2005, her ex-husband MikePorter of Houston, TX in 2005, and her brother Mark Brodsky of Brewer,ME in 2008. She was a “Bubbie”, to two Jewish granddaughters in WinterGarden. They loved discovering her latest gadgets, helping set a colorfultable for meals, playing Rummikub and Dredyl, eating Bubbie’s noodlekugel and raspberry slushies, finding prizes at holiday scavenger hunts andtelling stories about the Banana River critters that everyone witnessed fromher 4th floor balcony. Vicki won a two-year battle with Stage 4 OvarianCancer in 2020 thanks to her family, friends, Dr. John Bomalaski and hiswonderful staff at the Health First Cancer Institute in Melbourne, FL.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Health FirstCancer Institute in Melbourne, FL, Temple Israel in Melbourne, FL or theAmerican Space Museum in Titusville, FL. Vicki was a strongbeliever in celebrating her life while she was alive.
