Elizabeth (Bettie) Ann Manning

February 20, 1940 – November 9, 2025

Elizabeth “Bettie” Ann Manning, 85, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Bettie was born to John and Louise French Jordan in Kearny, New Jersey. She grew up in New Jersey and attended St. Stephen’s Elementary School, Holy Spirit Elementary School in Asbury Park, and Red Bank Catholic High School before graduating from Boonton High School after her family relocated to northern New Jersey.

It was at Boonton High School that Bettie met the love of her life, Wendell L. Manning. They married in 1960. At the time, Wendell was serving in the United States Navy and stationed in Japan, where Bettie joined him shortly after their wedding. Two of their six children—Jeannine and Jacqueline—were born in Japan; the remaining four—Keith, Kimberly, Michael, and David—were born in Franklin, New Jersey, where the family settled following Wendell’s discharge from the Navy.

In addition to being a devoted full-time mother, Bettie also worked at Morley Shirt Factory in Franklin, New Jersey. In 1982, the family relocated to South Carolina, where Bettie began working at Food Lion. Her hard work and dedication led her to become Front End Manager, a position she held until her retirement in the early 2000s.

During her early years of retirement, Bettie and Wendell enjoyed several travel adventures together, creating lasting memories.

Bettie is survived by her brothers Jay (Carolyn) Jordan of Missouri and Thomas (Charles) Jordan of Colorado; her children Jacqueline (Richie) Weekes of Franklin, New Jersey, Keith Manning of Dorchester, South Carolina, Kimberly Landgraff of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Michael (Ann) Manning of Summerville, South Carolina, and David (Bridgette) Manning of Summerville, South Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Wendell and daughter Jeannine.

Bettie’s surviving grandchildren include Crystal Manning, Lee Aker, Stephanie Golaszewski, Richie Weekes, Jordan Hamby, Sarah Verch, Eric Landgraff, Linda Vance, Taylor Manning, Katharine Manning, Erin Shaw, Tate Manning, Colby Manning, and Abby Manning. Her great-grandchildren include Linza Manning, Peyton Secondino, Eliza and Diana Landgraff, Genevieve and Connor Golaszewski, Bennett Shaw, and Paisley Hamby.

In accordance with Bettie’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral services. The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crescent Hospice or to a charity of your choice in Bettie’s name.
