Verna Mae Nieweg
August 7th, 1937 - November 6th, 2025
Verna Mae (Garetson) Nieweg was born in Hanna, Wyoming on August 7, 1937 to Lavern (Sandy) and Lucille Garetson. Verna was raised all her young life on ranches in the Elk Mountain, Wyoming and graduating from Elk Mountain High School. After graduating, she moved to Saratoga, Wyoming to find employment. There she married George M. Allen, they were later divorced, but from this union two daughters were born: Connie Lynn and Kristi Ann Allen. On February 18, 1977 she married, Howard (Curly) Nieweg in Longmont, CO. Verna retired from Rocky Flats as a mail carrier. Verna was a member of the Red Dale Drifters for 41 years. Verna is survived by her daughter, Connie L Hazard of Longmont, a step-daughter Linda Rook of Longmont, Linda’s son Monte Kalisch and Jeremy Riva of Berthoud, CO. She is survived by her brother Elwin (Red) Garretson of Laramie, WY and his daughter Bonnie (Mike) Beer of Windsor, CO. One granddaughter, Jennifer Von Strohe (Des) and one-great granddaughter, Scarlett Capri Von Strohe-Grech, all of Ascot, United Kingdom. Verna was preceded in death by her husband Howard (Curly) Nieweg, daughter Kristi Allen-Cruz, and step-son Ronald Nieweg. Cremation has been held. Interment will be at Foothills Gardens of Memory.
