Jeffery David McCleary was born on October 16, 1958, in the quiet town of LaMoure, North Dakota, where he was welcomed into the world by his loving parents, Harley and Donna McCleary (Pedersen). In 1974, seeking a change from the frigid winters of North Dakota, the McCleary family embarked on a new adventure, relocating to the picturesque landscapes of Harrisburg, Oregon. Growing up in a bustling household filled with laughter and camaraderie, Jeff thrived alongside his five siblings: Roxcie Howell of Junction City, OR Scott McCleary of Florence, OR; Nancy Holzer of Buda, TX; Becky McAndrews of Springfield, OR; and Dale McCleary of Mount Vernon, OR. He shared a special bond with each of them, and all are left to cherish his memory. At the age of 17, fueled by determination and a sense of duty, Jeffrey persuaded his father to allow him to enlist in the Navy. He dedicated three years of his life to service, starting as a boiler operator and earning a promotion to Fireman through hard work and perseverance. His time in the Navy included an impressive 2 years, 7 months, and 23 days at sea aboard the USS Simon Lake, where he served proudly before receiving an honorable discharge in 1978. Jeff was a devoted father to three sons: David McCleary of Sweet Home, OR; Timothy Cox; and Levi Thomas, both of Harrisburg, OR, and step children Kenneth Welch & Crystal Champagne. His sons were not just his children; they were his pride and joy, a source of boundless love and inspiration. He also cherished the role of grandfather to over ten grandchildren. Eventually, Jeff settled in Junction City, OR, where he made his mark in the waste management industry. For over a decade, he made the daily commute to Woodburn, working to provide for his family. Later in life, Jeff found his partner in crime Linda, who was by his side until the end. Above all, Jeff was known for his infectious laughter, a sound that could instantly brighten any room. He had a unique ability to weave humor into his storytelling, whether reminiscing about old times or making the entire room blush with the things that came out of his mouth. His laughter brought joy to his family and friends, leading to many shared moments that will be treasured. Jeff's warmth and humor will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley & Donna McCleary.

Services will be held on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at Junction City Assisted Living in Junction City, Oregon.

A second celebration will follow in the spring with a Veteran’s Salute.
