Gary Edward Jones, 78, of Versailles, Kentucky, was born in Webster County on January 23, 1947, and grew up in Hebbardsville, KY. He passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025, in Lexington, KY, surrounded by his loving family.

Gary is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Anita Jones; his son, Christopher Jones, and daughter-in-law Kimberly Jones; his beloved grandchild, Christina Jones, and her partner Gabbie Hein; and his siblings Gladys Estes (John) of Evansville, IN, Linda Vincent of Robards, KY, Jeannie Shelton (Don) of Henderson, KY, and his brother Bill Jones (Carolyn) of Cashiers, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George “The Colonel” Jones and Lida Jones, as well as his siblings Kenneth Jones (Jean), Eula Bowman (Bob), Peggy Winterman (Joe), and Emerson Jones (Pat).

Gary spent his life working with his hands, his heart, and his unwavering work ethic. A master electrician by trade and a lifelong farmer by passion, he took great pride in both careers. He was an avid supporter of University of Kentucky sports and a loyal fan of the Cincinnati Reds.

One of Gary’s greatest joys was his deep involvement in brace beagling. A dedicated member of the Bluegrass Beagle Club, he participated in, promoted, and mentored others in the sport he loved. His lifelong commitment and contributions to brace beagling led to his induction into the National Brace Beagling Breeders Hall of Fame in 2013.

Gary will be remembered for his wit, kindness, and steadfast loyalty to his family and community. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, the family he cherished, and the traditions he helped build.
