Joseph Aniceto Barela “Joe”, 60 of Colorado Springs departed into eternal life on Thursday, November 13, 2025. He is preceded in death by his Father-in-law, John L. Ortega; Father Donald Barela, Mother Clara Abeyta (Tom), Grandmother, Michaela Maes and Brother Christopher Barela. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Barela, Mother-in-law, Mary Louise Ortega, Sister-in-law, Joy Lynn Ortega, Siblings, Michael Barela, Donald Barela (Christina), Victor Barela, Christina Duran (Brian). Numerous Aunts, Uncles, 7 God Children, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends. He will be remembered for his teasing humor, his deep devotion to his family, and his unshakable faith.
Services will be Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2760 Larimer St, Denver, CO.
With a Visitation at 10:00am, Prayer of the Rosary at 10:30am and the Funeral Mass at 11:30am. Burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery 12801 W 44th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO. A reception after the burial at The Potenza Lodge, 1900 W 38th Ave, Denver CO.
