Sarah Elizabeth Earley passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, in Columbia, South Carolina, with her daughter and granddaughter, Bethany by her side. Born on October 12, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Henry Oxendine and Leona Benenhaley.
Sarah lived a vibrant and unforgettable life. She had a one-of-a-kind personality—warm, witty, stylish, and full of charm. She loved fashion and accessories, and she never missed an opportunity to offer (and enjoy) a good compliment. Animals, especially dogs, were her constant companions and a source of comfort and joy.
She is survived by her daughter, Stacey Nuckols (Matt), and her son, Shon Martin; her granddaughters, Jescelyn Spitz (Jonathan) and Bethany Schuhly (Cody); and her great-grandchildren: Tillman, Harper, and William. She is also survived by her devoted caregiver, Ruth Ann, and her longtime partner, Ronnie Ross.
Sarah and her daughter Stacey shared a close and steadfast bond. Stacey faithfully stood by her mother’s side—driving her to appointments, fixing her hair on Saturdays for church, and caring for her with unwavering love throughout the years. Sarah cherished her church family at Bethesda in Sumter, where she found fellowship, belonging, and joy.
One of the greatest blessings of Sarah’s life was coming to know Jesus at the age of 75. Her faith brought her peace, hope, and renewed purpose, and she delighted in sharing that faith with everyone she met. Her family takes great joy in knowing that Sarah is now in the presence of the Lord, made whole with a renewed body.
Sarah leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, humor, and unforgettable presence. To know her was to carry a memory of her.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Pine Grove Baptist Church, 433 Old Manning Road, Sumter, SC 29150, with a service to follow at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations in her memory to the S.P.C.A. & Humane Education Center of Sumter.
