89, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2025 at Shoreview Senior Living Memory Care – special thanks to all the wonderful caregivers. Arlene was born July 15, 1936 in St. Paul, MN. She lived briefly with her parents, Norbert and Florence Anfang, in Oklahoma before returning to the Macalester-Groveland area. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy and kept in touch with classmates until her memory began to fail. Arlene met and quickly fell in love with Leo Ryan at the University of Minnesota Newman Center. They were married from October 5, 1957 until his death in 2018.
Arlene is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Daniel Willenbring, her grandsons Brian (Karlie) of Lino Lakes and Michael (Ashley) of Tiffin, IA, and her great-grandchildren Blake and Kennedy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM Monday, December 15, 2025 with visitation starting at 10:00AM at St. Odilia Catholic Church, 3495 Victoria St. N., Shoreview, MN
Private interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
In honor of Arlene’s 50+ years living with type 1 diabetes, memorials preferred to the American Diabetes Association.
