Stephen “Steve” Nielsen Gregory Obituary

Stephen “Steve” Nielsen Gregory, 71, passed away on November 12, 2025, at his home in Isla del Sol in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he had lived for the past 20 years. Born in Ohio, Steve grew up in Rocky River and later lived in Vermilion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Erwin Gregory Jr. and Nancy Nielsen Gregory, and by his brother, George “Greg” Erwin Gregory III. He is survived by his sisters, Laura (Glenn) Coggins and Judy (Mark Petardi) White; his sister-in-law, Pam Moes Gregory; and his nieces and nephews, Charlotte Caroland, Gregory (Aly) Coggins, Molly Gregory, Michael T. White Jr., Lindsay White, and Colin White. He also leaves behind two great-nieces and his beloved dog, Captain.

Steve was a warm and engaging conversationalist with a generous heart. An avid sailor, he formed close, lifelong friendships across the country and will be missed by many. He raced various one-design sailboats on Lake Erie and later continued his passion for the sport through race committee work at both the St. Petersburg Yacht Club and Davis Island Yacht Club. As a past president of Isla del Sol’s HOA, Steve built lasting friendships throughout his community and the greater St. Petersburg area.

A graduate of Lake Ridge Academy, Steve went on to attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He enjoyed a long and successful career in the technology sector, where he was respected for his expertise, dedication, and thoughtful approach.

A celebration of life honoring Steve will be held on June 13, 2026 at 1:00 pm, at the Vermilion Boat Club. Memorial contributions may be made to Vermilion Sail Education Foundation, 5416 Liberty Ave., Vermilion, Ohio.
