Elouise Kirby Self, fondly known as “Nannaw”, passed away peacefully at her home on December 1, 2025, in Mooresville, North Carolina, at the age of 82. Born on April 26, 1943, in the District of Columbia, Elouise lived a joyful and fulfilling life centered around love, laughter, and the people she treasured most. 

  A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Elouise was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, and her beloved son, James Johnson III. 

 She is survived by her loving husband, Larry Self, her daughters; Juanita Crump, Lisa Lawson (John), Debra Malcolm, Christina Powell (Roland Evans), & Darlene McDowell (Fredrick), her grandchildren; Cheryl Christie, Jennifer Enos, Ashley Crump, Candice Bankhead, Steven Johnson, Dawn Jenkins, Kitt Milstead, Kayti Carver, Royal Malcolm, LeighAnn Malcolm, Michael Malcolm, Matthew Malcolm, Amanda Cox, Cassandra Perrigan, Christopher Powell, Derrick Etchison, Drew Etchison, Myracle McDowell, Mathias McDowell, and EJ Sharpe, 40 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her niece, two nephews, and cousins. 

 Elouise’s nurturing presence extended far beyond family—she never met a stranger. She greeted everyone with a radiant smile and a kind word, making each person feel seen and valued. Her generosity knew no bounds, and her home was always open—a place of comfort, good food, and heartfelt conversation. 

 Elouise had an extraordinary gift for finding joy in life’s simple pleasures. She cherished time spent with her family, whether gathered around the kitchen table sharing stories or celebrating holidays filled with warmth and laughter. Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren were her pride and delight, and she nurtured each of them with unwavering love and encouragement. 

 Known for her quick wit, gentle humor, and compassionate spirit, Elouise touched countless lives. She carried herself with grace and resilience, offering strength and support to others even through her own challenges. Her presence brought light into every room, and her memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved her. 

 Elouise’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and connection. She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her wisdom, her laughter, and her boundless affection. 

 A Homegoing Service to celebrate her life and legacy will be held at The Wave Church on December 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., 135 Village Point Dr, Statesville, NC 28625, USA, where friends and family will gather to honor the remarkable woman who meant so much to so many. 

 Elouise Kirby Self will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the lives she touched and the memories she leaves behind.
