Joan E Keenan, (nee Davis), 87, of Wenonah, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2025.
Legacy
Joan Eileen Davis Keenan was born on December 6, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She grew up in a quiet childhood home where her mother, Angela, tended a vegetable garden and her father, Matthew, worked as an engineer and investigator for the United States Navy.
One of Joan's favorite memories from her early years was playing the piano while her siblings tried to guess the tune. She also loved simply, solitary, play especially throwing a ball against the house or garage for hours at a time.
Joan attended Earlton School and Christ the King before graduating from Haddonfield High School. Her favorite teacher was Sister Maureen, who taught Religion and left a lasting impression on her. School days for Joan were centered around prayer and regular classwork.
Her first job was packing apples at a farm, and later she worked for Bell Telephone in Camden, New Jersey. It was there that her coworker Marge Keenan introduced her to Rich Keenan, who would become her husband. The couple married in Elkton, Maryland. Upon their return, Rich's mother, Mary Keenan, hosted a large family dinner to celebrate their union.
Joan considered her greatest accomplishment to be her children JoAnn, Micki, and Rich, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She described parenting as a wonderful experience and felt fortunate that her children were all good kids. Sundays in her home were always marked by big family dinners, with relatives frequently dropping by. Joan took pride in passing on the values of love and honesty to her children.
Her happiest memories were the births of her children, and she cherished family life deeply. She also spoke fondly of vacations in Hawaii, her favorite travel memory. She shared that her ancestors came from Italy and Ireland, roots she was proud of.
When reflecting on her life, Joan emphasized that she truly lived a full and meaningful life.
