Peggy Crabtree Morris, 94, died on Monday, December 8, 2025. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Born June 9, 1931, to Minnie and Randolph Crabtree, Peggy grew up on a farm in Brookneal, Virginia. Following nursing school, she married the love of her life, Dr. Willie H. Morris, Jr., on January 9, 1953, and together they shared a life filled with love, family and adventure (with golf clubs in hand).
Peggy was an avid crossword-puzzle enthusiast and never missed a day of completing the Lynchburg News & Advance crossword. Although she vehemently denied having a sweet tooth, you could always find chocolate stashed somewhere around her house. Her preference was Andes Mints, but in her later years at Westminster, she was notorious for keeping Reese’s Cups tucked away in her room. A passionate golfer, Peggy spent many happy years on the course at Boonsboro Country Club with her dear group of friends affectionately known as the “Chicken Tour Gals.” She rarely missed an episode of Days of our Lives or Wheel of Fortune, but her favorite thing to watch on TV was golf, as she loved cheering on her favorite golfer, Freddie Couples. She carried a warmth that made her easy to be around, a presence that will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Peggy leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Willie H. Morris, III (Beth) of Lynchburg, Virginia and Charles Steven Morris (Fredanel) of Blowing Rock, North Carolina; grandchildren, Willie H. Morris, IV of Malibu, California, Taylor Morris (Meghan), Zach Morris (Laura), and a granddaughter she shared a special bond with, Haley Morris Hildebrand (Dan), all of Richmond, Virginia. She was blessed with seven great-grandchildren, including one who proudly carries her middle name, Ann. Peggy is also survived by her brothers, Ronnie (Anne) and Darrie (Patsy) Crabtree.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her daughter-in-law, Caroline Morris, and brothers, Buddy and Jackie Crabtree.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her longtime, devoted caregivers at Westminster Canterbury, 5th Floor, Drinkard Building.
A graveside service will be held at Fort Hill Memorial Park on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 1:00 PM, with Reverend William Deal officiating.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Westminster Canterbury Fellowship Fund, 501 V.E.S. Road, Lynchburg, VA, 24503 or to a charity of your choice.
