Jacque H. Everhart passed away on December 11, 2025, at the age of 89, with family by her side.Jacque was born on June 4, 1936, to Martha Crymes Dorroh and John (Jack) Hazard Dorroh Jr. in Albuquerque NM. She grew up in El Paso Texas where she graduated from Ysleta High School along with her two sisters Mary Nele and Suzanne. In 1956 Jacque married Louis R. Hernandez in El Paso, and over the years they welcomed three children Robert Clayton (1958), Theresa Dea (1961) and Joseph Coleman (1963). Jacque made holidays and birthday parties feel special because of her artistic decorating skills, that were theme-based and child-centric. Jacque got her degree from UTEP, then worked as a teacher in the El Paso Independent School District.
After her divorce in 1975, Jacque moved to Austin Texas and began a long, beloved career at Criss Cole Rehabilitation Center for the Blind. There she served as one of the Residential Managers, taught arts & crafts and made all clients at Criss Cole feel welcome with her ability to provide detailed verbal descriptions for those who were visually impaired, and communicate by signing-in-the-palm for those who were visually and hearing impaired. Accessibility and communication were important to Jacque who was born deaf (profoundly hard of hearing). However, because of her lip-reading skills, and the advent of hearing aids with ever improving technologies, it was difficult to tell that Jacque couldn’t hear without hearing aids in place. In 1978, Jacque married George Jordan in Austin, where they lived happily until his passing in 1984.
Jacque married Gary Everhart in 1990. After living in Austin, they moved to Cañon City, where they had a large group of friends, spent time rock hounding, fishing and RVing---including an annual trip to Rocky Mountain National Park with her grandson McEwen Louis.Tucson became her final home, near her sons. Her final residence was at Amber Lights Assisted Living Community, where she and Gary had a very good life with their dog Boo. The family thanks Amber Lights for the love and care they showed Jacque throughout her time living there, and especially in her final weeks/days when the Care Staff reminded her every day through their words and actions that they knew and appreciated the special person she was-—energetic, loving, positive, faithful and hope-filled...who also loved to dance. We especially thank Dr. Bravo, Sandy, Karina, and the many others there who made Amber Lights feel like a loving home. The family also greatly appreciates Amedisys Hospice (especially Serena), who helped Jacque feel comfortable and at peace during her transition. She likely appreciated their good works even more because of her years as a Hospice Volunteer and the recognition she received for her gift of working with those in the dying process. Jacque is preceded in death by her parents, as well as Louis R Hernandez, George Jordan, Gary Everhart, and her sisters Mary Nele and Suzanne. She is survived by her children (Clay, Teri and Cole), grandchildren (Nicholas, Caroline, Hannah, Jake, McEwen and Ava) and great grandson (Rohan). A funeral mass will be held January 9, 2026 at 10:30am at St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 5150 N. Valley View Road, 85718, with a reception following.
