Mary Elizabeth (Buffie) Carver Fay passed peacefully at her home on November 30, 2025.    Born on May 6, 1927 to Elizabeth Morrison and Jess Carver, she was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend.  She was an active member of the Episcopal church and sang in church choirs for 74 years.

Buffie (as she preferred to be called) was born in Pittsburgh, PA.  She was an only child but never felt alone as she had four very close cousins who treated her much like a sister.  She graduated from Ambridge High School in 1945 and Maryville College close to Knoxville, Tennessee in 1949.  She graduated with a degree in elementary education and taught in Erie, PA, Fort Lauderdale, FL and finally in Loveland, Colorado at Sarah Milner Elementary School.  She found great joy in helping others learn. After retirement she spent much of her time partaking in the things she loved i.e. gardening, reading, attending concerts and babysitting her beloved grandchildren.

Buffie met Andrew Francis Fay through a college roommate, who had decided “Andy was too old and too tall for her”.   He was living, at that time, in Cascade, Colorado.  She took the initiative and wrote him a postcard one summer while she was living in Erie, PA.  Long story short Buffie and Andy were married at Shove Chapel in Colorado Springs in 1959.    A year later their first child, Jeffrey Carver, was born.  Andy’s job eventually took him to Neenah, Wisconsin and in 1962 their daughter, Claire Elizabeth (Betsie) was born.

Buffie was an active member of her community and served in Philo, a women’s service organization, All Saints Episcopal Church (Loveland), Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, various community choirs and in McKee Hospital’s baby nursery, back when they allowed volunteers.

She is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Courtney) Fay, Betsie (Michael) Paulus and her adored grandchildren, Jordan (Nolan) Andres, Connor and Lexi Fay.  Buffie was proceeded in death by her husband, Andy, in 2004 and a grandson, Ian, in 2007.

Cremation has taken place.  Her ashes will be interred in the columbarium at All Saints Episcopal Church in Loveland, Colorado in the spring.  Arrangements to be announced at a future date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church, 3448 N Taft Avenue, Loveland, Colorado 80538.
