Andrew (Andy) Atzl, 67, of Garnerville, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. Andy was born in Tarrytown, NY on December 25, 1957.

Shortly after, he moved to Germany with his parents, returning to Tarrytown a few years later. His family then moved to Sloatsburg and eventually settled in New City where he graduated from Clarkstown High School. Andy went on to get his associate degree from RCC.

Andy spent his professional life at Atzl, Scatassa, and Zigler where he initially worked in the field conducting surveys. After becoming licensed in land surveying, he was made a partner in the business. He spent his career with the company, and after many years eventually retired from there.

Andy created many fond memories with his friends. Whether racing cars, going on camping trips, or jumping out of a perfectly good airplane, he had so many stories to tell of their adventures. Andy had a passion for rebuilding car engines in his father’s garage and took pride in the car he built from scratch. Andy had always hoped that one day Chevrolet would develop a mid-engine Corvette, and that hope came to life when in 2020 they did.  He immediately took steps to purchase the car, reminding his wife that she promised he could get it if that ever happened.  The Corvette was his pride and joy, and his hopes were to drive in it one more time.  That is one wish that will be fulfilled. His many hobbies included hunting with friends and fishing as much as possible. He had a knack for always catching the biggest fish, especially when fishing with his wife.

While living in Nyack, Andy met his soul mate, Larysa, whom he married a few years later. He was completely devoted to her during their 30 years of marriage. They did everything together including joining bowling, corn hole, archery, and dart leagues. Their pool league team won the state finals, sending them to Las Vegas. And let’s not forget fishing.

Andy and Larysa eventually settled in Garnerville, where he added more friends into his circle. He loved to entertain, having many parties as well as memorable day-after parties. Andy was very skilled and handy around the house. He continued to build and expand his knowledge, working on various home improvement projects, always very meticulous about everything he did.

While Andy may not always have been the easiest person to get close to, those who truly knew him loved him, and he loved them back. He was grateful to have them as part of his life. Under his quiet and sometimes gruff exterior, Andy had a heart of gold and would do his best to help anyone in need. This included neighborhood cats stuck in trees, earning him the nickname “cat whisperer”.

Andy is survived by his loving wife Larysa, his father Theodore Atzl, sister Catherine Coffee and her husband Tom, brother John Atzl and his wife Marcella, his uncle and aunt, Bill and Doris Atzl, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and his cats. He was predeceased by his mother Marilyn Atzl.

As per his wishes, a service will not be held. There will be a celebration of his life, details to be announced later in 2026. Donations in his memory may be made to The American Cancer Society, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to a charity of your choice.
