Mary Elizabeth (Mayfield) Schott

Mary Elizabeth (Mayfield) Schott, 91, was born October 18, 1934, and passed away December 17, 2025, at Grace Pointe Senior Care in Greeley. She was formerly of Kersey, CO. Mary was born to Emmett and Marie (McGrew) Mayfield in Greeley, CO, but she was raised by her mother and her second husband, Robert Dunkle. She had two sisters and four brothers. She grew up in Kersey with her family and attended Kersey High School 1953.

After graduating high school, Mary began work as a telephone operator for Mountain Bell.

On March 14, 1954, Mary married Albert Schott at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Greeley, CO. She moved with Al to California where he served in the U.S. Navy. In 1956, after Al was honorably discharged, they moved back to Kersey to the family farm. She was a stay-home mother to their three children, Jane, Ken, and Shari.

After raising her children, Mary worked at Monfort Portion Foods as a meat cutter for several years until her retirement.

During retirement, Mary and Al attended many high school and Navy reunions and traveling with their family. She enjoyed attending many school events for her grandchildren—basketball and football being her favorites. Mary also enjoyed cooking, often trying new recipes on her grandchildren; she enjoyed sewing clothes and baby blankets and making holiday crafts with her sisters; and she especially loved going “up the hill” to Blackhawk with her family.

Mary was a dedicated and faithful member of St. John’s Church throughout her lifetime. She loved her family fiercely and taught them all the love of Jesus, the importance of tradition, and the value of education and hard work.

Mary is survived by her children, Jane Chittenden of Kersey; Ken (Diane) Schott of Greeley; Shari (Duane) Naibauer of Kersey; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and brother Robert Dunkle Jr. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Albert; her parents, brothers, sisters, grandson Dustin Naibauer, and son-in-law Al Chittenden.

A visitation will be held at 9:00 on Tuesday, January 6, 2025, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 3815 W 20th Street, Greeley, CO, with services at 10:00 and a reception at the Church following the interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 3205 W 28th Street, Greeley, Colorado.

Memorial gifts may be made to the St. John’s United Church of Christ in care of Adamson’s Life Celebration Home.

Condolences may be shared at AdamsonCares.com.
