Robert grew up in the Bayford, Conway, SC area. There he grew tobacco with his family. Robert was a Deacon at Bayford Baptist church in 1954 and a Deacon at Northside Baptist. He worked at Hoover Chrysler Plymouth and at Burnside Dodge on Remount Rd. He helped with the race car team and being a HAM Radio Operator. Robert enjoyed meeting with his HAM radio friends at the local BoJangles. Bob, as he was known to his friends, was one of the best automobile mechanics in North Charleston and he loved helping people. Yet he spoke his mind and was not one to shy away from his opinions. His friends respected him for not being a hypocrite.
Robert was known as R.E to his parents Thelma Cannon Hodges and Ethon Hodges. He adored his two loving daughters, Terrie Black and Leesa Hodges. He had seven sisters: Virginia, Edna, Bonnie, Joan, Mary Frances, Patricia, and Jeanette, also four grandchildren, Kandyce, Victoria, Travis, and Ethann, and eight beautiful great-grandchildren.
A service will be held at Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation and Burial, located at
7475 Peppermill PKWY
North Charleston, SC 29418. The date is January 3rd between 2-4pm.
