Margo Elson, 77, of Tucson Arizona, died Friday, December 12 at home after a complicated illness.
Born in Chicago November 1948, She grew up in Highland Park, Illinois. Margo loved horses as did her two sisters. She furthered her love by first being a camper, then a counselor at Camp Owlwood, better known as Dewey’s.
Margo graduated from Highland Park High School in 1966. She adored high school and kept in touch for life with friends and teachers. She attended every type of reunion HPHS had.
Margo is survived by her sister, Dr. Mary Elson Carlson, of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Laurie Delaney of Highland Park, Heidi Tinnes of Chandler, AZ, and P. Clifford Miller, of Lake Forest, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carol Lederer Elson, Dr. Ralph Elson, and Joan Elson, younger sister, Natalie Elson, and Marcie Brooke Miller.
Margo attended the University of Arizona, graduating in 1970 with a BS in psychology and sociology, and 1972 with a MS in counseling.
After graduation, Margo worked in the field of at-risk youth rehabilitation and was a realtor. She was devoted to Appaloosa horses, beginning with her beloved Chulo, and owned horses for the rest of her life. She was a rescuer of cats as well, and at one time operated a cat rescue, FACT:Friends of Alley Cats of Tucson.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be at the Newman Center in Tucson sometime in March. Donations may be sent to an animal charity, rescue, or the charity of your choice.
