Mary Louise (Berkemeyer) Click, “Grandma Lulu,” 98, of Greeley, Colorado passed away December 23, 2025 at Grace Pointe Care Community. She was the longest living member of her family.
Mary Lou was born on May 3, 1927 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Aloysius G. and Helen (Shrope) Berkemeyer. Raised in the Catholic faith, she attended Resurrection Church and school, before graduating from Woodward High School. She was proud to be the first of 4 sisters to obtain a high school degree. She wanted to enlist in the Army after high school, but her father opposed it, so instead she went to work as a secretary at Wortman Roller Company.
Mary Lou met Palmer “Bud” Click on a blind date. She wanted to elope, but her mother insisted on a church wedding. They were married February 16, 1952. The newlyweds moved to Maryland where Bud worked at Martin Marietta and she was a homemaker. It was there that they started their family of 3 children with Richard, Laura, and Jon. Sadly, Jon passed away in infancy. Bud’s work led to relocations to Denver, Colorado and Slidell, Louisiana. Their last move was to Greeley where Mary Lou lived her remaining 22 years.
Mary Lou loved to sing and was a member of the Fifinellas vocal girls’ group in Cincinnati. She was an active member of the Martin Wives Club and neighborhood bridge groups. She loved to shop with her daughter, granddaughter and great-granddaughter, and spent many fun afternoons with her great-grandchildren playing “Old Maid” and “Go Fish.” She was a formidable Scrabble player, challenging family members well into her 90’s. She and Bud enjoyed traveling, especially cruises and road trips to see family in Ohio and Kentucky. She had a special place in her heart for her miniature schnauzers. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and we will miss her wit, independence, strength and love.
Mary Lou is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Helen, Marian, Rita and Lois; and her son Jon. She is survived by her children—Richard Click and wife Becky of Lone Tree, Laura Hinderaker and husband Bob of Greeley; three grandchildren—Cheryl Crain and husband Jared of Louisville, Ryan Hinderaker of Loveland, and Randall Click of Greeley; two great-grandchildren—Landon Crain attending University of Puget Sound in Washington and Haley Crain of Louisville.
Services to be held at a latter date.
