Jeannie Ballance Sleigher, age 78, passed away peacefully at home in Charlotte, surrounded by her family, on December 27, 2025.
Born on September 17, 1947, Jeannie devoted her life to her family and her work at Grace Christian School. She was the proud mother of four children: Chrissie (Don), Lynda (Joe), Robert (April), and Daniel, who preceded her in death. Her friendliness and generosity as a grandmother and great-grandmother brought her great joy in her later years.
For 37 years, Jeannie served as a secretary at Grace Christian School, a place that became her second home. She truly loved her work and took great joy in being an important part of students’ and teachers’ lives. Jeannie especially treasured the relationships she built with students over the years, many of whom remembered her kindness, warmth, and steady presence long after they left the school.
Jeannie is survived by her brother, James (Stacey); her sisters, Barbara Lane (Roger) and Veldean (Harold); her nine grandchildren, Patrick (Kaylyn), Stuart, Andrew, Addison, Miriam, Hampton, Caleb, Isabelle, and Sophia; and her six great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Colton, Brady, Liam, Bonnie, and Aria.
Her life was marked by steadiness and a servant’s heart. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her honor.
