Delia Mae Hammons, lovingly known as "Dee," passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025, in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, at the age of 98, surrounded by family who loved and cherished her.
Born on February 10, 1927, in Niwot, Colorado, Dee was the beloved daughter of Apolonio and Virginia Montoya. She attended Niwot Grade School and went on to work as a waitress at Excello Restaurant, where she met her devoted husband, Ray Hammons. Dee and Ray shared 4½ wonderful years of marriage before he passed.
Dee also held the position of supervisor at Gates Rubber Company Print Shop. She also took pride in her Catholic faith.
She leaves behind her brother, John Montoya, alongside many nieces and nephews who will continue to honor her memory.
Dee was preceded in death by her husband Ray, her parents Apolonio and Virginia, and her brothers and sisters Elias Montoya, Orlando Montoya, Evelyn Montoya, Emma Montoya, Cova Tafoya, Millie Rendon, Vidilia (Lee) Rael, and Dora Mares.
She found happiness in simple things, especially tending to her garden and spending time outdoors among her beloved flowers. Dee’s passion for nature equaled the devotion she showed to her family.
A viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at 10:00 a.m., followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass at St. Bernadette Catholic Parish, located at 7240 W. 12th Ave, Denver, CO 80214, officiated by Father Joe. Burial will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 1:00pm, with a reception following from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at St. Bernadette.
Dee’s enduring legacy of compassion, love, and dedication to both her family and nature will remain alive in the hearts of everyone she touched.
