Chris Hughes, age 52 of Kingsport, passed away at his home on Saturday, December 27, 2025. Chris was born on February 14, 1973, in Kingsport, TN to Larry and Donna Hughes. Chris worked many years in the construction industry, and he was of the Baptist faith. Chris was saved and baptized at an early age, and he was very well thought of by those who knew him.
Chris always loved helping his family and friends, whenever they needed help. He loved NASCAR and football; Dale Earnhardt, Sr. was his favorite driver, and Aaron Rogers was his favorite quarterback. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, and watching wrestling. Chris was also the proud owner of a 1941 Ford pickup that he had restored with a Chevy motor.
Chris was preceded in death by his only brother, Brandon Hughes in August of 2023; his maternal grandparents, G.M. and Jean Harrell; and his paternal grandmother, Jane Hughes. Those left to cherish his memory are his two precious sons, Chris Hughes (Sierra), and Matthew Hughes (Zoe); his parents, Larry and Donna Hughes; his granddaughter, Layton Hughes, whom he adored and who brought much joy to his life; nephew, Dylan Hughes; one aunt, Glenda Smith (Ray); two uncles, Mark Harrell (Tina), and Guston Harrell (Sonjua); three cousins, Maegan Dishner, Seth Harrell, and Travis Harrell (Rachel); many friends, including Anthony Collins, Jeff Hensley, Sean and Rusty Mays, and Johnny and April; and the little family dog, Buddy. His presence will be greatly missed by all.
The family will receive friends at Carter-Trent Funeral Home Kingsport on Monday, January 5, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm with Dr. Bobby Bernard officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 pm at Kenner Cemetery on Clouds Creek Road in Rogersville following the funeral service. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 2:50 pm. Mark Harrell, Guston Harrell, Chris Hughes, Matthew Hughes, Dylan Hughes, and Seth Harrell will be serving as pallbearers. Anthony Collins and Jeff Hensley will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Carter-Trent Funeral Home Kingsport is serving the Hughes family.
